and a little help.

My son Indy, at just four years old, was the most helpful assistant in the unmasking process.

Since the mid-1990’s this Allen Herschell carousel has been a landmark in Scottsdale, Arizona where it resides in the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park. The crew at Deluxe Customs and I took on this project together, completing the repainting all 30 carousel horses, in the spring of 2018.

When approached by the City of Scottsdale Parks and Recreation, just a little over a year prior to completion, everyone involved welcomed an idea I’d had of breathing new life into the carousel. Not only was a fresh coat of paint in order but I’d proposed to run with a whole new color scheme for the horses.

With the intention of bringing back a vibrancy where the previous paint scheme fell short, I devised a plan, creating a model of alternating color and pattern, leaving gold and silver leafing aside so that the project could remain within budget.
